Programs Just for Children
Children can receive the same Medicaid services as those listed on the Providers, Services and Billing page. Please click on this link to get the list.
In addition, you have other choices for your child. Through Care for Kids (an Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis and Treatment program), your child can receive preventive health care services. Medicaid can pay for any medical services that a screening has found your child to need. This is true whether or not the service would otherwise be covered through Medicaid. The goal is to make sure -- whenever possible -- that minor and easily treated health care conditions don't turn into an emergency or major problem.
Click on Care for Kids or call 1-800-369-2229 or 1-800-735-2942 (TTY) for more information. Make sure you know as much as you can about this program and how your child would benefit from preventive health care services.
Another option for your child might be the hawk-i (Healthy and Well Kids in Iowa) program. This is a separate program from Medicaid. It expands the number of children who have some kind of health care coverage.
It's for children up to age 19 whose family income is:
- Too high to qualify for Medicaid but
- Too low to afford a private insurance plan.
Families may be asked to pay a low premium each month. Children in this plan receive the same services as children who are eligible for Medicaid: Physician services, hospitalization, prescription drugs, immunizations, dental, vision care, and more.
Please click on hawk-i for more information.
