Enrollment Renewal Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who must complete the enrollment renewal process?
A: All tax ids currently assigned an active Iowa Medicaid provider number must complete the enrollment renewal process. The process for enrollment renewal and electronically signing the new provider agreement is completed by tax id, not provider number or individual provider. Therefore, only one person needs to sign an agreement on behalf of the tax identification number.
Q: Why must Iowa Medicaid providers complete the enrollment renewal process?
A: This process allows providers to verify and update their information with Iowa Medicaid. In addition, providers can view and agree to the new provider agreement.
Q: What is different about the new Provider Agreement?
A: The proposed agreement is clearer with respect to current State and Federal laws governing the administration of the Medicaid program. This helps protect both providers and the Medicaid program. Click here for a summary comparison chart that describes the basic differences between the two agreements; the added detail does mean the new document is substantially longer than the one it will replace.

The new Provider Agreement also more clearly defines the respective rights and responsibilities of both the State and providers in a manner more consistent with agreements between providers and commercial health plans. Click here to view the new provider agreement.
Q: How do I electronically agree to the new Provider Agreement?
A: Acceptance of the new agreement may be done electronically on the same site providers used to verify their NPI numbers. Please return to http://www.imeservices.org/ and follow the instructions. Links to instructions for completing the web-based tool appear on the web tool itself.

On this site, providers will:
  • Legally accept the new agreement
  • Verify a listing that identifies each professional and institutional component of the provider organization
  • Be asked to supply supporting documentation, such as licensure, in cases where verification of these items cannot be done electronically by the IME.
  • Q: Who should be the Enrollment Renewal Official?
A: The enrollment renewal official is someone who is legally authorized to sign the provider agreement and contract with Iowa Medicaid for the business or organization associated with the tax id.
Q: My office doesn't have access to the internet. Is there a paper approach to the enrollment renewal process?
A: To request a paper enrollment renewal form and a hard copy provider agreement, please send an email to imerenewal@dhs.state.ia.us or call provider services at 1-800-338-7909 (or locally in Des Moines at 725-1004), select Option 2, and ask to speak to an enrollment renewal specialist.
Q: The address listed for my office is incorrect. What is the process for changing my address?
A: Providers can now make changes to their service location address right on the web tool (Steps 2 and 3 of Enrollment Renewal).
Q: Which address should I select as my primary address on the Business Entity Management screen?
A: Your primary address is the main location where services are administered.
Q: Who should electronically sign the online provider agreement?
A: The enrollment renewal official. The enrollment renewal official is someone who is the duly authorized representative authorized by the provider to sign the provider agreement and contract with Iowa Medicaid for the business or organization associated with the tax id.
Q: Who should fill out Attachment A?
A: IME needs one Attachment A per tax id. Individuals and groups must complete sections A and C, and someone with authority to bind the organization should sign and date the form. Other Disclosing Entities must complete the entire form, and sign and date the form.
Q: Is enrollment renewal complete when I sign the new Provider Agreement?
A: No. There is more to enrollment renewal than completing the new Provider Agreement. In addition to the agreement, we also need a completed W9 (one per tax id) and an ownership statement (the "Attachment A"; one per tax id). In addition, we need some providers to supply updated license information and to verify addresses.
Q: Will IME notify me when the process is complete?
A: Providers completing the process online, can return to the website to view their current status. The website is updated when IME receives the documentation, when the documentation is reviewed, whether it is complete, and when the entire process is completed.
