ICD-10 Provider Readiness Survey: In November 2012, the Iowa Medicaid Enterprise (IME) announced the result of its ICD-10 Provider Readiness Survey. The survey was to be the first, of several, to track the preparation and readiness of providers for the transition to the ICD-10 code set on October 1, 2014. A second survey was launched in February 2013, and over 780 provider responses were received. The result echoes national survey results and give cause for concern around provider ICD-10 readiness. IME Annual Provider Training 2013: The IME would like to invite all Iowa Medicaid providers to the Annual Provider Training for 2013. The IME is pleased to offer sessions in 16 different communities throughout the state. Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS): The modifiers CC and KR have been added to the Medicaid claims payment system to help expedite processing of claims for some medical equipment and supply items. Read more about this important policy change on Informational Letter 1221

April 2013 Medical Director's Minute: Iowa Medicaid Medical Director, Dr. Jason Kessler, writes a monthly column on topics of interest. Program Integrity Provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) for Provider Enrollment and Screening: To improve the program integrity of the Medicare, Medicaid, and the Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) programs, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires these programs to screen and enroll all providers associated with the program. For the Iowa Medicaid Enterprise (IME), the new requirements are more extensive than the previous screening procedures and include enrolling providers who were not previously required to enroll in Medicaid.
